Deleting Your LetsPlay Account
You can delete your LetsPlay account at any time — from inside the app, or by email if you no longer have it installed. This page explains exactly what happens when you do: what we remove, what we have to keep, and what happens to any money involved.
How to delete your account
- Open the Profile tab
- Tap Delete Account
- Read the summary, then tap Permanently Delete My Account
There’s no waiting period and no approval step. It happens straight away.
This cannot be undone. We can’t restore a deleted account, and we can’t recover anything that was removed with it.
If you’ve uninstalled the app
You don’t need to reinstall to delete your account.
Email support@letsplayapp.ca from the email address on your account, with the subject “Delete my account”. Sending from your own address is how we confirm it’s you — that’s all we need.
We’ll confirm by reply once it’s done: normally within a few days, and always within 30.
The result is identical to deleting from inside the app. Everything under What we delete is removed, and everything under What we keep, and why is retained, for the reasons given there.
If you’ve lost access to that email address, write to us from any address and tell us the old one. We’ll ask a couple of questions to confirm the account is yours before deleting anything.
Money is settled first
Before your account closes, we deal with anything financial. This happens automatically — you don’t have to cancel or refund anything yourself.
Events you were hosting
Every upcoming event you host is cancelled, and everyone who paid to join is refunded in full. They’re notified that the event was cancelled.
This applies to all your upcoming events, including ones starting soon. Normally a host can’t cancel an event within 12 hours of its start time — but if you’re leaving, we cancel it anyway, because otherwise players would turn up to a game with no organiser.
Events that have already happened are not affected.
Spots you paid for
Spots you hold in other people’s upcoming paid events are refunded in full, with one exception:
If the event starts within 12 hours, the spot is forfeited and there’s no refund.
This is the same 12-hour rule that applies when you cancel a spot normally. Deleting your account doesn’t get around it — by that point the host is counting on you, and they’ve usually already paid for the court or field.
Payments you’ve disputed
If you’ve already disputed a payment with your bank, we can’t refund it — the bank’s chargeback process controls that money instead. This applies both to spots you paid for and to people who paid to join an event you were hosting.
Money you’re owed as a host
If you’ve hosted paid events and you’re still waiting to be paid, that money is still sent to you — on the normal schedule, and subject to the same holds that apply to any payout. A payment under dispute, or an event with an open host no-show report, is reviewed before it’s released. We keep the connection to your payout account open only for as long as it takes to send the money you’re owed, then remove it.
Payouts are sent approximately 24 hours after the event ends, so a payout may arrive after your account is already gone. It goes to the same bank account it always would have.
What we delete
| Your login | Your email address, phone number and password are destroyed. You can’t sign in again |
|---|---|
| Your profile | Your name, date of birth, gender, about-me text and favourite sports are erased |
| Your photo | Your profile picture is deleted from our storage |
| Your spots | Your place in every event you joined — free or paid, past and upcoming. Inside the 12-hour window you forfeit the payment but still give up the seat |
| Your notifications | Every notification we’ve sent you |
| Your devices | The record that lets us send notifications to your phone |
| People you blocked | Your block list — it no longer applies to anyone |
What we keep, and why
We’re not able to erase everything, because some of it isn’t only about you. Here’s each thing and the honest reason for it.
| What | Why we keep it |
|---|---|
| An anonymized record of your account | Every personal field is cleared, but the record itself stays so the events, payments and reports connected to it remain intact. It appears throughout the app only as “Deleted user” |
| Events you hosted | Other people joined them and paid for them. Deleting the events would erase their history too. Your name is removed — you appear as “Deleted user” |
| Payment records | Canadian tax and financial rules require us to keep records of money that moved, for seven years. These stay linked to your anonymized account record, which no longer holds your name, email or phone number |
| Reports involving you | Reports you made, and reports made about you. Removing these would let someone erase a safety record by deleting and re-registering |
| Blocks other people placed on you | That’s their protection, not yours to remove |
| Feedback you sent us | Kept without any link to you, so we don’t lose bug reports |
| Usage and crash data | Never held your name or email — only an internal account number. It’s deleted after 30 days |
Nothing we keep holds your email address, phone number or photo. Two things can still contain your first name: notifications other people already received, and the text someone wrote in a report.
What other people see afterwards
- In events you hosted, you appear as “Deleted user” with no photo, and your profile can’t be opened. In events you only joined, you’re removed from the participant list entirely
- People who blocked you no longer see you in their blocked list — there’s nobody left to unblock
- Notifications other people already received may still show the first name you had at the time. We can’t reach into someone else’s notification history to change it
Coming back later
Deleting your account frees up your email address, so you can sign up again with it. That creates a completely new account — a fresh profile with none of your old events, history, spots or payment records attached. There’s no way to reconnect the two.
If something goes wrong
If a refund fails for a technical reason, your account is still deleted and we resolve the refund manually afterwards. You don’t lose money because a refund didn’t go through.
